What do you mean you work from a decolonial framework?
Decolonial work for me is rooted in returning to an understanding of self and continual exploration of what my role and responsibilities are as a person with privilege and as settler of color. While I am not currently working with any indigenous groups in Georgia to support land-rights I believe I practice decolonial therapeutic work in the following ways:

  • I explore the impact of colonization and colonial mentality on well-being in sessions particularly on individuals in the South Asian diaspora.
  • I do my best to support potential clients with navigating the mental health system and how to optimize finding the right therapeutic fit for their needs (even if that is not me)
  • I try to demystify therapeutic processes doing outreach and content creation
  • I recognize the unique nuances of working within an intraethic dyad
  • I work in a way that honors multiple ways of healing
  • I use my time outside of individual therapy to educate, mentor, and create systemic change via advocacy and writing/poetry
  • I lean into a practice of rest and regulation knowing that my energy and relational skills are an important part of creating safety and stability for others.
  • I am continually humbled by the people God connects me to in work !
  • I investigate my own biases and blindspots in my practice via monthly clinical consultation and weekly supervision.
